SAN CARLOS, AZ (AZFamily) – Authorities have taken a man into custody following a tragic shooting that claimed the life of a young man in eastern Arizona.
According to the San Carlos Apache Police Department (SCAPD), the incident happened Friday near the Bylas Fitness Center located along U.S. Highway 70.
The victim was identified as 20-year-old Tashon Gambler. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital after the shooting, but despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators began working quickly to determine what happened and identify the person responsible for the deadly shooting.
During the investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Brandon Hinton as the primary suspect in the case. Authorities later located Hinton along U.S. Highway 70 and took him into custody without further incident.
Police say Hinton had a firearm with him at the time of his arrest, although officials have not confirmed whether it was the weapon used in the shooting.
At this time, investigators have not released details about what led up to the incident. Authorities say the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation.
Detectives from the San Carlos Apache Police Department, along with the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, are assisting in the investigation.
