Austin Bar Mass Shooter Possibly Motivated by Iran Attacks, Quran Found in Car as FBI Eyes Terrorism After 2 Killed, 14 Injured
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A gunman opened fire outside a local bar early Sunday, killing two people and injuring 14 others in what authorities are now investigating as a potential act of terrorism.
According to law enforcement sources, the suspect was wearing clothing featuring an Iranian flag design and the phrase “Property of Allah.” Two sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News that a Quran was discovered inside the suspect’s vehicle.
Officers who searched the gunman’s residence reportedly found an Iranian flag and images of Iranian leaders. The attack occurred just one day after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on Iran.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the gunman used both a pistol and a rifle during the attack. Responding officers confronted and shot the suspect at the scene.
The FBI has joined the investigation, examining whether the shooting was ideologically motivated and linked to escalating tensions overseas. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity.
Witnesses described chaos outside the bar as shots rang out shortly after midnight. Emergency responders transported multiple victims to nearby hospitals. Officials continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation as federal and local agencies work together to determine motive.
