WINTERSET, Iowa — Authorities have confirmed the death of a Winterset man following a tragic pedestrian accident on Highway 169 in Madison County late Saturday night.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. near East Madison Street in Winterset. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Logan Smith.
The crash report states that Smith entered the roadway from the east ditch, crossed the northbound lane, and then moved into the southbound lane of traffic.
At the same time, an 18-year-old driver from Afton was traveling southbound in a Ford F-250 pickup truck when Smith struck the side of the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. Logan Smith was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have not reported any charges at this time. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
