London’s Met Police launched a blitz on crime gangs across the capital – including the feared 'Turkish mafia' – to cut the capital's murder rate to the lowest in decades

Homicide in London has fallen to its lowest level in more than a decade, according to new figures released by the Metropolitan Police.

The force said 97 homicides were recorded in 2025 — the lowest figure since 2014 — equating to a rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people. This is significantly lower than comparable global cities such as New York (2.8), Berlin (3.2), and Milan (1.6).

When population size is taken into account, the Met confirmed this represents the lowest homicide rate ever recorded in London.

Teenage homicide has also seen a dramatic decline. After reaching a tragic peak in 2021, when 30 teenagers were killed, the number dropped to just eight last year — the lowest level since 2012.

Police leaders credit the reduction to an intensified crackdown on organised crime, including major operations against violent gangs and international criminal networks.

Officers are now arresting an additional 1,000 offenders each month, supported by advanced policing tools such as live facial recognition and intelligence-led targeting of the most dangerous offenders.
