WILSON’S MILLS, N.C.: A fatal one-car crash early Sunday morning in Johnston County, North Carolina has claimed the life of Alexis Quintanilla, a Smithfield man, according to local fire officials. The devastating incident occurred after a high-speed collision with a tree, leaving another woman critically injured.
Authorities say the crash was reported shortly after 1:45 a.m. on Powhatan Road at Pocahontas Trail. Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames following what officials described as a high-speed impact into a tree approximately two miles northwest of Wilson’s Mills.
The vehicle involved was identified as a 2016 Dodge Charger Hellcat. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the car was traveling well in excess of 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash. A woman at the scene initially told responders there were five occupants inside the vehicle.
The tragic death of Alexis Quintanilla has left the Smithfield and Johnston County communities mourning. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash as loved ones grieve a life lost far too soon.
