Two Dead, Two Officers Critically Injured in Gainesville Shooting
Two police officers were injured during a shooting incident in Gainesville, Florida, after responding to reports of gunfire early Wednesday morning. The situation escalated when officers were fired upon by a suspect attempting to flee the scene.
Gainesville Chief of Police Nelson Moya confirmed that officers arrived at the scene of a reported shooting and immediately came under fire. An exchange of gunfire followed, resulting in the suspect being fatally shot.
During the investigation, police also discovered another deceased individual at a nearby lumberyard. Authorities believe the two incidents are connected, though the full circumstances remain under investigation.
According to officials, the officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The incident occurred near Waldo Road and East University Avenue at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Law enforcement agencies have secured the area while detectives continue gathering evidence. Residents are urged to avoid the location as the investigation remains active.
