The Fitchburg community and viewers across Wisconsin are grieving the tragic loss of Karen Johannsen, 66, a respected local greenhouse owner and beloved News 3 Now contributor, who died following an apparent #murder while traveling on the Caribbean island of Antigua.
Karen Johannsen, 66, a respected greenhouse owner and former News 3 Now contributor from Fitchburg, Wisconsin, tragically died in Antigua after a severe head injury from an apparent attack on December 19, 2025, while on a horseback ride. Police have a suspect in custody, reported WDBJ7.
Johannsen suffered severe head trauma and was airlifted to Wisconsin, passing away days later on December 27th. The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed that she was attacked while on a horseback trail ride on an Antigua beach.
According to a press release from police, Johannsen was hit on the head with an unknown object. She was initially treated at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre in Antigua, before being transported to University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
A man is currently in custody. The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has not released his name.
