Angie Rios Died in Two-Vehicle Crash on 210 Freeway Near Polk Street
A 19-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning on the Foothill (210) Freeway near Polk Street.
Just after 5 a.m., Angie Rios was driving a Chevrolet Volt eastbound on the 210 Freeway when her vehicle struck a guard rail just west of the Polk Street off-ramp, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez of the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.
Authorities said the vehicle came to rest in the No. 3 lane facing the wrong direction. Moments later, a semi-truck traveling in the same lane collided with Rios’ car.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and extricated Rios from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
As of Monday morning, investigators are still working to determine whether Rios died from the initial collision or as a result of being struck by the semi-truck.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the victim as 19-year-old Angie Rios. Her city of residence was not immediately available.
