John Lacayanga Death News: Officials Report Airport Employee Died During Workplace Incident at SFO

San Francisco | Updated: Jan 2026

SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco man died while working at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday evening, and authorities are investigating the incident as a workplace accident, officials confirmed.

The worker was identified Monday as 28-year-old John Lacayanga by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

At the time of his death, Lacayanga was employed by Dubai National Air Travel Agency, commonly known as dnata. The company describes itself as an Emirati airport services provider offering aircraft ground handling, cargo, travel, and flight catering services worldwide.

According to airport officials, the San Francisco Fire Department responded around 7 p.m. Sunday to a report of a solo vehicle accident on the service road between Terminal 3 and the International Terminal’s Boarding Area G.

Firefighters found Lacayanga beneath a cargo pallet he was apparently towing at the time of the incident. Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.

Representatives from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health were on site and conducted interviews with the man’s employer as part of the ongoing investigation.
