VESTABURG, MICHIGAN: The Vestaburg community is mourning the loss of Kay Elizabeth Peasley, a beloved educator and lifelong volunteer, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Alma, Michigan. She was 91 years old.
Kay Elizabeth Peasley was born on May 2, 1934, the daughter of George and Dessa (Andrews) Heinrich. She graduated from Vestaburg High School and later earned her teaching degree from Central Michigan University.
Kay devoted her professional life to education, teaching first in the Vestaburg school system and later in the Montabella school system until her retirement. Her passion for learning and commitment to students left a lasting impact on generations.
A Life of Service and Compassion
Beyond the classroom, Kay was deeply involved in her community. She volunteered with the Community Baby Pantry, Gratiot Community Hospital, and other local organizations. She was a faithful member of the Vestaburg Church of Christ.
Kay enjoyed playing euchre, following sports—especially the Detroit Tigers—and reading. She meticulously recorded and rated the books she read, reflecting her lifelong love of learning.
Kay is survived by her children, Kurt and Kathy Peasley, Ryan Peasley, and Lisa Linsley. She is also survived by seven grandsons and their spouses, six great-grandchildren, and one nephew, Todd Olson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Janice Olson, and her nephew Kevin Olson. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes in Alma, Michigan. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
