One person was killed and several others were injured following a four-vehicle crash near the White House in Northwest Washington, D.C., according to police. Authorities said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The crash occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of 16th and L streets in Northwest, near the Capital Hilton Hotel in downtown D.C., officials said.
At least four vehicles were involved in the collision. Police confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other individuals were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
Authorities temporarily closed the intersection of 16th and L Street, Northwest, as emergency crews responded to the scene. According to officials, a pedestrian was struck during the incident and was later declared dead at the scene.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and have not yet released additional details.
