Brett James, the Grammy-winning country songwriter behind iconic hits such as “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Out Last Night”, has died following a tragic plane crash in North Carolina. He was 57.

According to reports, James was piloting a Cirrus SR22T aircraft when the crash occurred. The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, which inducted him in 2020, confirmed his death through an official Facebook post.

Brett James co-wrote some of the most memorable songs in modern country music. His Grammy-winning collaboration with Carrie Underwood on “Jesus, Take the Wheel” remains one of the genre’s defining moments.
