An Iowa woman has died following a serious crash that occurred early Monday morning in Poweshiek County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a 2005 Ford Escape was traveling westbound on Iowa Highway 85 at approximately 7:05 a.m. when the vehicle failed to navigate a curve. The SUV left the roadway and flipped multiple times.

Crash Details

Authorities identified the driver as 45-year-old Kara A. Westphal of Deep River. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The Iowa State Patrol confirmed that icy road conditions were a contributing factor. Investigators stated the vehicle was unable to maneuver the curve due to slick surfaces.

Officials noted that icy roads also led to another crash Monday morning in Linn County, where a driver sustained injuries.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution during winter weather conditions and to reduce speed on potentially icy roadways.
