GASTON COUNTY: Two people were reportedly hospitalized after a large fire broke out Sunday night at a home connected to a well-known NASCAR driver in North Carolina. The blaze ignited along Blacksnake Road and quickly escalated, prompting a massive emergency response.
Lucia-Riverbend firefighters confirmed that multiple fire departments from Gaston and Lincoln counties were dispatched to the scene. Images shared by officials showed the main portion of the house engulfed in towering flames, with much of the structure destroyed before the fire was fully extinguished.
Fatal Outcome Confirmed by Officials
Officials later confirmed that Dennis Hamlin, the father of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, lost his life following the fire. His wife, Mary Lou Hamlin, sustained catastrophic injuries while escaping the burning home and was transported to a burn center in Winston-Salem for treatment.
Emergency officials stated they arrived at the scene around 6:20 p.m. to find the two-story home fully engulfed, with flames visible throughout the attic. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
