Austin Police Identify Victim in Sunday Morning Shooting in South Austin
AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is actively investigating the death of a man who was found inside a parked vehicle Sunday morning in South Austin.
Officers responded to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive at approximately 9:12 a.m. on Dec. 28 after receiving reports of an unresponsive individual inside a vehicle.
Upon arrival, police located a man who was not breathing and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was later identified as 51-year-old Elias Mejia, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, authorities believe Mejia was shot by an unknown individual. The suspect remains at large, and detectives have released a previous booking photo of the victim in hopes of generating leads related to the shooting.
Officers returned to the scene around 9:21 a.m. as part of the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Austin Police Department.
