Beloved Wrestling Coach, Mentor, and Normal West Wildcat Remembered
NORMAL, ILLINOIS: The Normal community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Demetrius Turrentine, affectionately known as Coach DT — a devoted wrestling coach, former Normal West Wildcat, and an inspiring mentor whose impact on young athletes will be felt for generations.
On Monday, December 15th, the Normal West wrestling family lost one of its own. Coach DT was a passionate, driven, and deeply caring member of the coaching staff who poured his heart into every athlete he worked with.
Demetrius graduated from Normal West in 2020, where he was a standout member of the wrestling team. After continuing his wrestling career in college, he made the meaningful decision to return home — choosing to give back to the program that helped shape his life.
His final two seasons were dedicated to the girls wrestling program, where he played a vital role in building a strong, confident, and thriving team. His encouragement, leadership, and belief in his athletes helped many discover their own strength.
The loss of Coach DT leaves a profound void within the Normal wrestling community. His passion, generosity, and commitment to uplifting young athletes will continue to resonate through the lives he touched.
