A devastating incident shook the Baytown community Wednesday morning after a violent altercation at Ross S. Sterling High School left one student dead and another in police custody.
Witness Account
Snyder described the panic that followed as she attempted to reach her granddaughter. “I immediately called my granddaughter and no answer, and then you wonder, ‘Is it your kid?’”
School Response
Following the incident, students were moved to the school auditorium while authorities secured the campus. Despite the tragedy, classes continued for the remainder of the school day.
Goose Creek CISD officials confirmed the altercation involved only two students. However, they did not release details on how the deceased student died.
Investigation & Arrest
An 18-year-old student was reportedly arrested at the scene and transported to the Baytown jail. Scanner traffic from Rangecast provided early indications of the severity of the situation.
Officials stated that one student remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Goose Creek CISD officials said classes are expected to continue as scheduled on Thursday. Counseling and support services are anticipated to be available for students and staff.
