New York City Mourns After 14-Year-Old Chapin School Student Dies
NEW YORK CITY: A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the city following the death of a 14-year-old student from the prestigious Chapin School, sending waves of grief through families, educators, and students alike.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that a man believed to be responsible for a separate shooting incident at a top American university on Saturday is now in custody.
According to NBC News, investigators discovered a unique characteristic on the firearm recovered when the suspect was detained. The individual, taken into custody early Sunday morning, has not yet been publicly identified and has not been formally charged.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley stated during a news conference that the person of interest remains under investigation. Officials emphasized that no additional suspects are currently being sought.
Col. Oscar Perez, Chief of Police in Providence, confirmed that law enforcement believes the threat has been contained and that the community is not facing further immediate danger.
The shooting occurred at the Barus & Holley building on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The facility houses more than 100 laboratories, numerous classrooms, and administrative offices.
Authorities confirmed that two students lost their lives, while nine others were injured during the incident.
Mayor Smiley reported that seven of the injured victims remain in stable condition. One individual is listed as critical but stable, while another has since been discharged from the hospital.
