Athens Police Investigate Fatal Incident After Man Found Unresponsive in Roadway

ATHENS, Ga. — Police in Athens-Clarke County are investigating a fatal incident after a man was found unresponsive in the roadway early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the intersection of West Broad Street and Pulaski Street at approximately 2:23 a.m. on December 18 after receiving reports of a person lying in the road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man lying unresponsive in the roadway. The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Cole Anargyros of Athens.

Emergency responders transported Anargyros to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to an Athens-Clarke County Police Department press release, the incident remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
