SLAVE LAKE, ALBERTA: A 19-year-old has died following a serious collision on the QEII Highway on December 30, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving reports of a crash early Tuesday morning.
Mounties say they were called to the collision around 6:30 a.m. near Slave Lake. Investigators believe an SUV traveling west on Highway 2 lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic. One eastbound vehicle was able to avoid impact, however a logging truck hauling logs was unable to stop in time.
Emergency Response & Investigation
The logging truck driver contacted emergency services and remained at the scene. Paramedics and police responded, but the 19-year-old driver — a resident of Slave Lake — was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP say road conditions are believed to have played a role and the investigation remains ongoing.
