The Bessemer Police Department is investigating a crash that left a 77-year-old man dead Tuesday morning, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office

BESSEMER, Ala. — Updated Tuesday Morning

A 77-year-old man from Hueytown, Alabama, died after his vehicle collided with a tree in the 2300 block of 19th Street North in Bessemer.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as John Joseph Schober. Officials said Schober was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, Schober was driving when his vehicle struck a tree at approximately 8:20 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bessemer Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
