A Delaware State Police trooper who was killed in the line of duty this week was a University of Maryland alumnus, according to officials.

Corporal Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook, 34, was fatally shot while working an overtime assignment at the Karen L. Johnson Division of Motor Vehicles on Hessler Boulevard in Wilmington, Delaware State Police confirmed.

UPDATE: Delaware State Police identified Corporal Grade One Snook as the trooper killed during Tuesday’s shooting at the DMV facility.

Snook, of Hockessin, Delaware, was a dedicated 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police. He was first recruited in March 2015 and served on C-shift throughout his career.

Officials described him as a dependable and committed professional. He is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.
