VIDEO: Avon police chase shoplifting suspects after they nearly ran over officer
An Avon police officer was nearly run over by shoplifting suspects as they fled a Target store located in Avon Commons on Monday evening.
Police were called to the store just after 6:30 p.m. following a reported theft. Investigators say the suspects attempted to leave the area in a white Chevrolet SUV.
The vehicle became stuck in traffic along Avon Commons Drive, where an officer exited his cruiser and ordered the driver to put the SUV in park.
Dashcam Video Shows Close Call
Instead of complying, dash camera footage shows the driver backing up, shifting into drive, and striking a vehicle in front of them before jumping the curb.
The suspects narrowly avoided hitting the officer as they sped away, heading westbound along Detroit Road. Police say the chase reached speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour.
Avon police are now asking for the public’s help identifying a second suspect involved in the incident.
