Less Than a Year After Diagnosis
Young Girl Faces Stage 4 Cancer Battle
A North Carolina Family’s Journey Through Fear and Hope
📍 Selma, North Carolina • 🗓️ Updated Report • 📰 Health News
SELMA, N.C. (WNCN): It’s been less than a year since Holly Carter received a diagnosis that would turn her family’s lives upside down — stage 4 cancer. Since then, her family has endured some of the most difficult moments imaginable, alongside unexpected moments of joy and strength.
Holly doesn’t use words to communicate, but her smile tells a powerful story. “We’re seeing that glow in her,” said her grandmother, Amy Capps. That glow was something the family longed for during months filled with sickness, uncertainty, and fear.
Earlier this year, doctors diagnosed Holly with stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer. “They found quite a bit — the brain, the stomach, pretty much everywhere,” Capps explained. The young girl struggled to understand why she couldn’t go home and why she was in constant pain.
Holly, who has autism and was just five years old at the time of diagnosis, spent much of her time at UNC Hospital undergoing intensive chemotherapy. Being away from home made the experience even more challenging for her and her loved ones.
This story will be updated as new verified information becomes available.
