MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio | December 31, 2025

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - A 16-year-old Cleveland boy was killed in a shooting late Sunday night at a Mayfield Heights restaurant, and a 14-year-old has been taken into custody, police said.

Mayfield Heights police responded to a report of a shooting near 10 p.m. Sunday at Raising Cane's, 5880 Mayfield Road.

Officers found the 16-year-old suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near the front entrance of the restaurant, according to police. The teen was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Phillip Longino Jr. of Cleveland.

A 14-year-old boy from South Euclid has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. An 18-year-old man from Cleveland has also been detained as part of the investigation, police said. Authorities did not immediately release details about possible charges.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting followed a fight involving youths inside the restaurant. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including any relationships among those involved.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the case.
