TRAGIC CUSTODY EXCHANGE MURDER, VICTIM IDENTIFIED – UPPER DARBY

A mother of three has been identified as the woman shot and killed during a custody exchange in Upper Darby Township.

Police say 34-year-old Shantal Snowden was meeting her ex-boyfriend to pick up their three young children when an argument broke out near Locust Street and Copley Road. Investigators say the man pulled out a gun and shot Snowden in front of the children, then turned the weapon on himself. Snowden’s family say that the shooter was taken off life support today.

Snowden died at the scene. The man was rushed to the hospital and later died after being taken off life support.

The children, ages 1, 4, and 6, were not physically injured. A neighbor quickly stepped in and got them to safety.

Snowden’s mother described her daughter as a loving, devoted parent whose life revolved around her children.
