JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va.: A bald eagle has died after being struck by a vehicle along U.S. Route 33, just outside of Ripley, West Virginia. Authorities say the incident occurred over the weekend and prompted a response from local deputies.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported that the eagle was hit by a vehicle on Saturday. Officials stated that the driver involved did not stop at the scene. The injured bird was later transported for emergency care.

Authorities said the bald eagle was taken to the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia in Morgantown. Despite efforts by wildlife professionals, the eagle later died from its injuries.
