A woman is dead after being struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run collision in midtown Toronto on Wednesday morning, police say.

Toronto police said the victim, a 70-year-old woman, had just finished grocery shopping and was crossing Eglinton Avenue East near Dunfield Avenue, east of Yonge Street, at approximately 7:15 a.m.

According to police, the woman was first struck by a white Hyundai Venue travelling westbound. She was then hit by a second vehicle travelling eastbound on Eglinton Avenue East.

Both drivers failed to remain at the scene, police said. The woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.

Toronto police initially said the victim was around 80 years old, but later confirmed she was 70 in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.
