SAN MATEO, CA: The San Mateo community is mourning the passing of Lynn Horiye, a respected educator, mentor, and longtime coach at Saint Francis High School. His death marks a profound loss for students, athletes, colleagues, and families whose lives he shaped over decades.
Coach Horiye retired last spring after nearly four decades of dedicated service. Throughout his career, he became synonymous with excellence, discipline, and genuine care for student development both inside and outside the classroom.
As the head varsity gymnastics coach at Saint Francis High School, Lynn Horiye led his teams to an extraordinary 20 Central Coast Section (CCS) championships, earning recognition as the winningest gymnastics coach in CCS history.
Beyond gymnastics, Coach Lynn served the Saint Francis community in numerous roles. He coached JV and varsity girls tennis, worked as a prefect and substitute teacher, supported the Dean’s Office, and kept statistics for countless Lancer basketball and football games.
The Saint Francis Lancers community shared a heartfelt statement, honoring his devotion to students, educators, and the Brothers of Holy Cross. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
