CONNECTICUT: Henry J. White Jr., 75, has passed away following years of legal scrutiny tied to a large-scale unclaimed property fraud scheme. The case drew national attention due to its duration, scope, and financial impact on multiple state treasuries.
According to attorney Brian Miller, White Jr. and his sister, Patricia A. White, fraudulently received more than $1.2 million by submitting false claims for unclaimed property to state treasuries across the country.
Authorities said White used the names of corporate entities with which he had no affiliation or legal authority. State treasuries often issued checks that were mailed directly to the Whites’ residence.
Federal Sentencing and Aftermath
White Jr., a Connecticut resident, was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for his role in the fraudulent activity. Prosecutors confirmed the scheme operated for nearly a decade, from approximately 2013 through 2022.
Federal officials emphasized that the case highlights vulnerabilities within unclaimed property systems and the importance of verification safeguards to prevent similar fraud in the future.
