Leah Palmirotto Atlanta Death and Obituary: 19-Year-Old Dies in Northeast Atlanta Building Fall
ATLANTA (ANF/Gray News) — A 19-year-old woman died after falling from an abandoned building where scenes from the Netflix series “Stranger Things” were filmed, according to authorities.
Police identified the woman as Leah Palmirotto, 19. Investigators believe she fell from the roof of an abandoned hospital building located at 1256 Briarcliff Road in northeast Atlanta.
The structure, known as Briarcliff Building A, was constructed in the 1960s as a mental health treatment facility and was later acquired by Emory University in the 1990s.
The building had been listed among more than 40 properties rented to film productions, though its listing was removed from Emory’s website on Friday.
Briarcliff Building A is widely recognized as the filming location for Hawkins National Laboratory in the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things,” which was primarily filmed in Atlanta.
The Emory Police Department confirmed it is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
